Get a Workout in Nature - Nordic Skiing and Snowshoeing in Breckenridge
There is no better way to get a great cardio workout while taking in the beauty of Breckenridge and Summit County than nordic skiing. Free yourself from the boundaries of the ski area and explore Summit County in its natural winter beauty. Breckenridge offers multiple opportunities to enjoy the outdoors on cross country skis. Or give snowshoeing a try! Snowshoeing is a less strenuous way to enjoy a winter hiking experience. Very similar to nordic skiing, snowshoeing offers exercise and recreation while taking in the scenery of the area and getting a light workout. There are two easily accessible nordic centers in Breckenridge, and both offer nordic skiing and snowshoeing, lessons, equipment and friendly, professional assistance.
Breckenridge Nordic Center: Take advantage of cross country skiing just one mile from the Grand Lodge on Peak 7! Enjoy 32 km of cross country ski and snowshoe trails through spruce forest and open meadows and 16 km of snowshoeing on scenic nature trails.
Gold Run Nordic Center: Breckenridge Gold Run Nordic Center is open for cross country skiing and snowshoeing 7 days a week between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. from early December to early April. Daily group and private lessons are available for both skate and classic skiers of all ages and abilities.
Iowa Hill Snowshoe Tour: Presented by the Breckenridge Heritage Alliance, join one of our local experts for a snowshoe through the historic Iowa Hill mine site. Enter the 1868 restored miners' boarding house, see mining artifacts and interpretive signs, and find out what mining was all about in Breckenridge. This is an easy snowshoe journey, approximately one mile in length each way.
